ITOCA
(Information Training & Outreach Centre for Africa) www.itoca.org
is a capacity building organization aimed at enhancing information and
communications technology (ICT) skills for African professionals and
students in the Sub-Saharan Africa region. ITOCA (formerly, TEEAL Africa
office) is an International NGO registered in South Africa. It was
established in 1999 as a marketing and support office for Albert R. Mann
Library TEEAL program. Now, ITOCA spearheads several ICT for
development programs including the TEEAL and Research4Life programmes.
The organization is looking for self-motivated and energetic
information/ICT professionals based in the six listed countries. The
candidates should have excellent research, training, facilitation and
presentation skills. They should be friendly, responsible and are able
to regularly travel nationally and with the regions for project
assignments.
Job description
• To effectively plan,
organize and conduct training workshops and seminars on the project
according to the project guidelines
• To carryout project outreach, training and support missions mainly within the project countries
• To undertake research data collection and project evaluation missions under the project M & E activities
• To plan and carry out project promotions and exhibitions at selected national, regional and international meetings
•
To assist interested academic and research institutions to participate
in effective user programmes at participating institutions with special
focus on selected national colleges, universities and NARS organizations
• To work under guidance and close cooperation with ITOCA’s partners to achieve the overall goals of the project
Required knowledge and experience:
• A self-starter highly efficient individual
• Minimum of seven years’ experience in library, information, ICT and/or research work
• In-depth experience working with top university and research institutions decision-makers and management
• Demonstrated ability to organize and track multiple project activities under tight timeframes
• Excellent presentation and teaching skills (university teaching experience an added advantage)
• Experience with research design, data analysis and report writing on scientific studies
• Flexible, open to learning and willing to travel within countries and regionally (approx. 50%)
• Solid ICT and computer skills (online databases, library e-resources, MS-PowerPoint, Prezi, etc)
• Knowledge and experience working with African National Agricultural Research System (NARS) and academic communities
• Applying candidates must be currently based or affiliated with a NARS or academic institution in the country of assignment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills – including strong listening skills
• Demonstrable project monitoring and evaluation experience
• Experience working with diverse interest groups and audiences
Minimum
Qualifications: Masters degree in Library and Information Science (or
in a related discipline) from a reputable university. A Masters or PhD
in an agriculture research discipline with added extensive
ICT/information experience may also be considered
Position
Tenure: This position is on a retainer contract from February to
December 2014 with possible annual renewal until June 2016. Conditions
of service commensurate with appropriate experience
